What does Triane (“TRY-an”) do?

Triane Consulting specializes in Decision Analysis (DA) — a proven discipline originally developed in the 1960s during the U.S. ballistic missile program to make faster, higher-quality decisions under extreme uncertainty.

Here’s what that means in practice:

When facing a major strategic decision — whether selling equity, charting a new direction, or committing significant capital — organizations often get stuck. Ideas fly in every direction, perspectives clash, risks feel overwhelming, and conversations become scattered. Too often, a few options get listed on a whiteboard, quick pros-and-cons are added, and a decision is made based on gut feel… or nothing happens at all due to analysis paralysis.

Decision Analysis changes that.

We slow down the pre-work just enough to ask the right questions:

  • What problem are we really trying to solve?

  • What does success actually look like?

  • What constraints and risks must we manage?

  • How should we fairly evaluate our options?

Using structured frameworks grounded in behavioral science, game theory, and statistical modeling, we make your thinking visible, transparent, and aligned across stakeholders. The result is clearer communication, better choices, and dramatically improved outcomes.

Done early enough, Decision Analysis is often the difference between a good decision, a great one… or a costly disaster.

Thomas DeVries

Managing Director

Thomas DeVries brings decades of hands-on experience in Decision Analysis, facilitation, and strategic planning. He has worked with global enterprises, major corporations, and international non-profits, and previously led project teams for prominent Decision Analysis firms in the Houston area.

While helping large organizations make complex, high-stakes decisions, Thomas recognized a significant gap: small and midsize businesses — especially family-owned companies — rarely have access to the same level of structured decision support. He founded Triane Consulting to bring that same rigor and clarity to owners and boards facing equity transitions, strategic direction, governance issues, and major capital commitments.

To deliver the best possible outcomes for every client, Thomas has built a flexible network of subject matter experts, change managers, and seasoned facilitators who join projects on an as-needed basis. This ensures Triane always assembles the right team — exactly sized to your needs — without unnecessary overhead.
